Soldiers, retirees and Family members can take advantage of free e-Filing for federal and state returns this month at the Fort Benning Tax Center.
The grand opening for the tax center will be Jan. 30. Remarks and a ribbon cutting will begin at 1 p.m. and the center will be open for business at 2 p.m.
Active-duty Soldiers, civilians and volunteers who work in the Tax Center have undergone extensive training and are properly certified by the IRS. Tax preparers are certified through the IRS with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
A military or dependent ID and adequate proof of a Social Security number that must come directly from the Social Security Administration for each taxpayer, spouse, and dependent is required. Adequate proof includes an actual or copy of a Social Security Card, a memorandum from the Social Security Administration and Social Security statements for retirees. The center also recommends bringing a copy of last years return.
Hours of operation will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every other Saturday starting Feb. 8. The center will stop taking new clients 30 minutes prior to closing.
