BOSS president shares guidance on resolving quality of life issues

As I have stated before, most Soldiers’ recognition of the BOSS program is through our recreation and leisure events. While I certainly enjoy providing opportunities for Soldiers to have fun and relieve stress, I do also want to inform you all of another vital role BOSS plays in its service to you.

Quality of Life is perhaps the single most important pillar of the BOSS program. BOSS’s philosophical foundation is based on the entitlement of single Soldiers to surface issues and recommend policy changes that will enhance their quality of life. Through proper communication between BOSS Soldiers and the BOSS committee, many issues affecting Soldiers’ well-being, can be addressed and resolved.

Quality of life issues can be a host of different things.

Quality of life issues of single Soldiers are defined as issues that directly or indirectly influence the enhancement of morale, living environment, or personal growth and development of that Soldier.

The formula for having your quality of life issues addressed and resolved should be to inform your BOSS representative in your company or battalion. Your representative will then bring these concerns or ideas to the monthly meetings held at 2 p.m. on the last Wednesday of every month at the Kelley Hill Recreation Center.

I will then directly inform the senior enlisted military advisor of the BOSS program, the garrison command sergeant major.

Remember that quality of life issues are expanded to include more than just ensuring your toilet stops leaking or the air conditioning is fixed. Through proper communication and recommendations for improvement, changes to policies can also happen, thus enhancing not only the quality of your life but also of the lives of the Soldiers who come after you.
