BOSS serves community
Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers is consistently involved with the Fort Benning and the Columbus community.
Every month Soldiers are getting involved with BOSS and their community; earning volunteer hours that can be credited toward promotion. Soldiers who choose to spend some of their personal time to volunteer and help others are providing an invaluable service to our surrounding community.
The community service component of BOSS is designed to get Soldiers to participate in programs, projects and events that make a difference in the lives of others in the community, and ultimately, the Soldier themselves.
Some of our past projects included working with House of Heroes, feeding the homeless with Open Door Community House and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chattahoochee Valley.
Volunteer opportunities are always available through BOSS, and your help is needed. More than 100 children have been waiting a year or more for mentors. As a Soldier, you are uniquely qualified to make a difference in someone’s life.
And, the best part? — It’s the look on someone’s face or the smile that came from you taking the time to help.
When you volunteer with BOSS, your hours are logged and uploaded into the Volunteer Management Information System. You can also apply for any volunteer positions available with BOSS. The system gives a Soldier accurate and ease of use tracking of all volunteer hours.
If you PCS, hours earned with BOSS on Fort Benning are automatically available to you at your next duty station. You may also qualify for a Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal through volunteerism with BOSS. The MOVSM is worth 15 promotion points for the ranks of specialist and sergeant. Although there isn’t a required amount of hours to qualify for the MOVSM, 100 hours is usually recommended.
